Guide to Fetal Movement Tracking

When to start: Most obstetricians recommend starting daily kick counts around Week 28 (or Week 24 if you have a high-risk pregnancy).

When to count: Choose a time when your baby is usually active (frequently after eating a meal, drinking cold water, or in the evening). Lie comfortably on your left side to support circulation.

What to look for: You want to record the amount of time it takes to feel 10 movements (kicks, rolls, swishes, or flutters). Ideally, you should feel 10 movements in under 2 hours. Most babies hit 10 movements in less than 30 minutes.

When to Contact Professional Care: If you do not count 10 movements in 2 hours, or notice a sudden, major decrease in daily baby movement, call your OB-GYN or midwife immediately. Quick evaluation provides safety and peace of mind.
